Description: The James F. Byrnes Scholarship will be awarded to students who must have lost one or both parents by death. Applicants must be a current senior in high school. Applicants must also have financial need and a satisfactory scholastic record. It is important that excellence in character, ability and enterprise be shown to indicate that the individual will make worthwhile contributions to society. The scholarship is renewable annually for as many as four years if the student is making satisfactory progress towards a degree. Two references are required. Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship:

Description: Each year the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation (TASF) grants scholarship awards to deserving young men and women. Applicants must be students from accredited high schools who will graduate or who have graduated in the spring of their academic cycle. Using a scale of one hundred points, the committee considers academic achievement, extra curricular and community activities, relative financial need, recommendations, and both essays to competitively rank applicants. Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship:

Description: The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students who will pursue a degree with a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History and American Government. This award is intended to promote the study of our country’s history among our finest students. U.S. Citizens residing abroad may apply through a Units Overseas Chapter. At least two, but not more than four recommendations must be submitted. Recommendations should convey the applicant’s ability, work habits, integrity, character, potential, and volunteer activities. A copy of your proof of United States citizenship is also required: birth certificate, naturalization papers, or information page of United States Passport must be included. Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Awards:

Description: Each year, the Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Awards are presented to Learning Ally high school senior members with learning disabilities, who plan to continue their education after graduation, in recognition of their academic achievement, outstanding leadership, and service to others. Learning Ally awards the top winners $6,000 each and special honors winners $2,000 each. Aside from the application, a personal narrative in writing and video recording about the applicant’s learning difference and how Learning Ally changed their life must be submitted. One letter of recommendation from someone, must be a non-relative and not a legal guardian, who has had a positive influence or impact on the applicant’s academic performance and success is also required. The letter of recommendation must be accompanied by a referral form and personally signed by the author. All scholarship awardees must be capable and willing to publicly share their personal story and represent Learning Ally as a spokesperson and advocate at various local, virtual and national events. Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Program:

Description: Members or children of members of local unions or children whose legal guardians are members of local unions that are affiliated with the Texas AFL-CIO and the local Central Labor Council may apply for the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Program. Applicants must be high school seniors who are planning to attend a university, college or technical institute in the summer or fall term. Please be sure to list the Central Labor Council, with which your parent’s or legal guardian’s local union is affiliated. Make sure the application is signed by a union officer and a parent or legal guardian. If you are unsure that your local union is affiliated with your local Central Labor Council, please contact one of your local union officers. A packet of material on organized labor will be sent to each applicant in March to prepare for a test about unions. Each Central Labor Council will arrange all interviews and tests for applicants no later than April 26, 2024. After interviews and tests are conducted, each local Central Labor Council will select semi finalists from among their applicants. Description: The purpose of the Texas History Essay Contest program is to assist and encourage graduating seniors to pursue their education at an institution of higher learning. Graduating seniors in any high school or home school may enter. Senior students in History, English, and Government classes are encouraged to participate. The authors of the three best essays submitted will be the scholarship winners if the essays warrant. Each contestant must submit an original and 6 photo copies of their essay for the judges (seven in all) including a CD or Flash Drive copy with contestant’s name, address, phone number, and year of the contest. The student must follow the format of the Chicago Manual of Style or Turabian’s Manual for Writers. Endnotes should be listed on one page and all references cited should be on a separate page. Information must come from a reliable published source (Books or Magazines) and students must acknowledge the author and publisher. Two internet sources are acceptable. The criteria used by the judges in selecting the winners will be based on a system that accurately scores the essays such as historical accuracy and content, writing quality (spelling and grammar), research references, bibliography, endnotes and whether the student followed instructions. Description: The Virginia Leyda Roberts Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior or undergraduate student who has been accepted or is currently enrolled in a nursing school for an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. Applicants must provide a college transcript or letter of acceptance from the college or university stating the applicant has been accepted into the Nursing Program. Applicants do not need to be members of the DAR. However, they must obtain a letter of sponsorship from a Colorado DAR Chapter. Description: The Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors and Recent High School Graduates will be awarded to students who must be residents of or attend a high school in northern or central California. Applicants must have completed or expect to complete high school (or equivalent) between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2025 and plan to attend or begin attending a U.S.-accredited post-secondary institution for the first time in 2025. Description: The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship provides high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education the opportunity to earn a scholarship for four academic years. In exchange, students must agree to teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school or repay the corresponding, prorated amount of the scholarship. Applicants must be a current high school senior or college student; must have graduated or will graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school. Description: The ACEC Delaware Scholarship is available to high school seniors who have lived in the State of Delaware for one continuous full year prior to the scholarship application deadline. Description: The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund was started in 1985 by a small group of neighbors in Seattle’s Mount Baker community and is a sponsored activity of the Mount Baker Community Club. The fund was intended to capture the spirit and vision of Martin Luther King, Jr. and to ensure that his dream lives on in all of us. The scholarship is renewable for all four years of college. The goal of this scholarship is to help deserving students achieve the dream of a higher education. The scholarship seeks out students who show financial need and academic promise, have overcome obstacles, and who contribute to their community. The scholarship is limited to students from ethnic or racial groups that are underrepresented in higher education.
