Students who graduate between January 1–August 31 of the current award year are not eligible. Two letters of recommendation required from an employer, instructor, counselor, or someone qualified to speak to the applicant’s character.

Awarded by the American Respiratory Care Foundation in memory of Jimmy A. Young, past president of the AARC. Preference given to nominees of minority origin. Award includes a certificate, coach airfare, one night’s lodging, and AARC Congress registration. Requires an original paper on some aspect of respiratory care, plus letters of recommendation from a program director and medical director. Any student may self-initiate a request for sponsorship.

For students currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory care education program. Preference given to candidates from Georgia and South Carolina. Requires an original referenced paper on respiratory care plus letters of recommendation from a program director and medical director. Previous undergraduate recipients are eligible to reapply.

Supports qualified respiratory therapists pursuing postgraduate education leading to an advanced degree. Requires a Baccalaureate degree with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better (or a letter of matriculation from a graduate program). Must provide proof of acceptance into an accredited advanced degree program plus a letter of recommendation from the program director and two from physician instructors. Previous recipients may reapply up to two additional years if maintaining good standing.

Eligible: Respiratory therapists pursuing an advanced degree at an accredited institution

For high school seniors who are direct descendants of veterans honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces (WWI to present). ALA family membership is not required. Requires a letter of application, letters of recommendation from a counselor/principal and a non-family adult, and a high school transcript with ACT/SAT scores. Note: the completed application must reach a local unit by May 1, 2026 before the June 1 departmental deadline.

Eligible: High school seniors who are direct descendants of honorably discharged veterans

Supports students of American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Hawaiian Native descent pursuing careers in nursing, healthcare, or health education with the goal of serving Native populations after graduation. Applicants must be enrolled in a tribe or village (or prove direct tribal ancestry) and be enrolled in an accredited professional health program. Post-graduate students are also eligible. Two letters of recommendation required for new applicants. Fall 2026 deadline is June 1; Spring/Winter 2027 deadline is November 1.

An endowment from the National Board for Respiratory Care supporting educational or credentialing research, a Master’s thesis, or Doctoral dissertation with practical value to the respiratory care profession. Applicants must submit a research proposal in the format prescribed by the ARCF Board of Trustees. The signed original and four photocopies may be emailed or delivered to the American Respiratory Care Foundation.

For undergraduate or graduate members of the Costume Society of America conducting original research in North American costume. Requires a detailed project proposal covering research background, goals, methodology, and budget, plus letters of permission from any research sites. GCSAA Scholars Competition

$500 – $6,000

Recognizes outstanding undergraduate students in accredited two-or-more-year golf or turfgrass management programs who are GCSAA members. Applicants must have completed their first year of the program. Seniors graduating before the deadline are ineligible. Selection is based on academic excellence, work experience, extracurricular activities, and professional potential. Requires an Advisor’s Report and a Superintendent’s Report. Marginalized and underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligible: Undergraduate GCSAA members in accredited golf or turfgrass management programs

Presented by the ARCF to recognize professionals, groups, or organizations that have made notable efforts to promote cardiopulmonary health and wellness. A nomination letter addressing four specific questions about the nominee’s public health impact is required, along with any supporting documentation and a curriculum vitae for individual nominees.

Eligible: Professionals, groups, or organizations actively promoting cardiopulmonary public health

For respiratory therapists pursuing postgraduate education toward an advanced degree. Must have at least a Baccalaureate degree with 3.0 GPA (or letter of matriculation). Requires proof of acceptance into an accredited advanced degree program, a letter confirming candidacy from the program or committee chair, and letters of recommendation from a program director and two physician instructors.

Eligible: Respiratory therapists pursuing a postgraduate advanced degree

Honors the most outstanding ESA member educator of the year at the community college or university level. Recognizes excellence in teaching, mentorship, curriculum development, and outreach. Nominations must come from an ESA Branch (limit one per branch per year). Requires a CV and up to two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues or students.

Annual awards for Delta Sigma Pi members in good standing who hold a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in or beginning graduate studies in the fall term. Students returning for a second undergraduate degree are not eligible. Requires letters of recommendation from a professor or employer and from a person who can speak to professional, fraternal, or civic involvement. A transcript is not required at time of application but may be requested during review.

Eligible: Delta Sigma Pi members in good standing pursuing graduate studies in the fall term

Available to Kappa Gamma Pi members enrolled at a Kappa-affiliated institution who are current dues payers (nominated June 2023–May 2025). Previous recipients are not eligible; doctoral students may apply if they have not previously received the award. Non-U.S. graduate programs are accepted. Requires two signed letters of recommendation on official letterhead addressing how the applicant’s life reflects the KGP motto of Faith and Service.

Buckingham Memorial Scholarship

$2,000 – $10,000

For children, stepchildren, and grandchildren of air traffic control specialists enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree. Must have at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours remaining before graduation. Requires two letters of recommendation from community members who can speak to personal character and commitment to volunteer service, plus official transcripts.

Awarded annually by Columbia University’s Donald Keene Center for the best English translation of a modern or classical Japanese literary work. Translators must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Submissions may include unpublished manuscripts, works in press, or books published in 2023 or later. Publishers submit on behalf of published works; translators or agents submit unpublished manuscripts. Seven copies (or printed manuscripts) plus a translator CV are required.

First-time applicants do not need a sponsor; returning applicants must be sponsored by an APTA member. New applicants require two letters of recommendation; returning applicants require one. Recommendations must not come from relatives.

Jack R. Gilstrap Scholarship

$5,000 – $12,000

Awarded to the applicant receiving the highest overall score in the APTA scholarship program. Open to college students and those seeking advanced degrees interested in the public transportation industry. Selection is based on academic achievement, career interest, essay quality, financial need, and leadership. Louis T. Klauder Scholarship

$5,000 – $12,000

For students dedicated to a career in the rail transit industry as an electrical or mechanical engineer. Requires demonstrated interest in public transportation, strong academics, financial need, and extracurricular leadership. Offered by the Texas law firm of Hutchison & Foreman to law students at accredited schools who hope to represent plaintiffs in civil rights or employment discrimination cases. California-based registered nurses can receive up to $15,000 in loan repayment in exchange for a 12-month service obligation providing direct patient care at a qualified facility. Applicants must hold a valid and unrestricted California RN license, a BSN degree, be in good standing with the California Board of Registered Nursing, and have unpaid educational loans. Stimulates interest in meteorology by recognizing undergraduate students who submit original papers on a topic in the atmospheric sciences. No more than two students from any one institution may enter. Women, minorities, and students with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
