Description: The ADEA/Sigma Phi Alpha Linda DeVore Scholarship recognizes the memory and the 30-year dental education career of Professor Linda Rubinstein DeVore. Prof. DeVore was active in dental hygiene education, scholarship and public service. She served as President of the American Association of Dental Schools (now ADEA) in 1994, and President of the Supreme Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha, the national honorary society of the dental hygiene profession, from 1997-1998. The scholarship is awarded to an individual in a course of study in dental hygiene, education or public health at the baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree levels. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to leadership in education or health care; for example, he or she is serving as an exemplary class officer or organizing a major class or schoolwide community service activity. Judge Thomas Tang and Dr. Pearl Tang Moot Court Competition:

Description: The Judge Thomas Tang and Dr. Pearl Tang Moot Court Competition is an appellate advocacy competition sponsored annually by the NAPABA Law Foundation. The purpose of this Competition is to help law students develop advocacy skills and to foster legal talents of the future. This is the 32nd anniversary of an annual tradition that fosters crucial advocacy skills among law students nationwide. This year’s competition topic is Artificial Intelligence. Participation is open to all students currently enrolled, in good standing in law school who have completed the first year of law studies, and who have abided by the following requirements: each competitor must be a member of an Asian American/Pacific Islander bar association; and each competitor is required to submit a short-written statement. Each law school is limited to two teams. The number of teams in the competition may be limited, so early registration is highly recommended. Teams will be able to choose between online and in-person regional competitions. Problem Release is on August 1, 2025. Registration closes on September 10, 2025. Brief submission deadline is on October 3, 2025. In-person regional rounds will be on October 17, 2025, via Zoom will be on October 18, 2025. National Competition: Top teams from both regional rounds will advance to the National Competition, held at the NAPABA Convention in Denver, CO, on November 7-8, 2025. NLF awards the top winners in brief writing and oral advocacy at the Regional Competitions. Awards and up to $10,000 in scholarships are given to the top winners at the National Competition. Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize:

Description: The Executive Committee of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has established the Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize to be awarded to an undergraduate woman for excellence in mathematics. The Schafer Prize was established in 1990 and is named for AWM former President and one of its founding members, Alice T. Schafer, who contributed a great deal to women in mathematics throughout her career. Any person can be a nominator. People of any gender can be a nominator, self-nominations are allowed, and a person does not need to be an AWM member to nominate someone for this award. If this is a self-nomination, then the applicant must have one additional letter of support. The nominee must be an undergraduate as of the date the nomination is due. All members of the mathematical community are invited to submit nominations for this prize. Nominations of women from underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged. A nomination packet should be compiled into one PDF file for submission and must include one letter of nomination highlighting the exceptional qualities of the candidate to be recognized; a copy of the student’s transcripts that indicates their expected graduation date; additional supporting materials should be included with the nomination, if applicable; and the name, position, institution, address, phone, and e-mail address of the nominee and the nominator that should be included in the cover sheet. Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation:

Description: The APS awards a limited number of Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation for research in the several branches of clinical medicine, including internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. The committee emphasizes patient-oriented research. The fellowships are designed for qualified persons who have held an M.D., D.O, M.D./Ph.D., or D.O./Ph.D. degree for fewer than eight years. The fellowship is usually intended to be the first post-clinical-training fellowship, but each case will be decided on its merits. Preference is usually given to candidates who have not more than two years of postdoctoral training and research. Applicants, both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, must expect to perform their research at an institution in the United States, under the supervision of a scientific advisor. Direct contact with patients is mandatory. Applicants must submit three letters of support. One letter should be supplied by the scientific advisor, who will provide assurance that guidance, office and lab space, relevant supplies, etc., will be provided. In addition, the department/division head and another expert in the field should each submit a letter on behalf of the candidate. The term of the fellowship is one year, but may be renewed for a second year. Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant:

Description: Created by the Mississippi Legislature, the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant Program is designed to provide financial assistance to students attending state approved public and private not-for-profit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. The primary objective of MTAG is to provide educational opportunities for students who wish to pursue postsecondary education in the state and do not already benefit from federal need-based aid. Applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to application. They must also enroll or currently be attending an approved postsecondary institution in a program of study leading to a first certificate, first associate’s, or first bachelor’s degree. Applicants must be eligible for less than the maximum Federal Pell Grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA. Entering freshman applicants must graduate from high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or earn a high school equivalency diploma or complete a Home School program. They must also score a minimum of a 15 on the National ACT. Superscores are accepted. Students currently enrolled in college must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative college GPA on at least 12 completed hours. MTAG awards up to $500 per academic year for freshmen and sophomores and $1,000 per academic year for juniors and seniors. A recipient may receive MTAG for up to 8 semesters or degree completion, whichever comes first. New applicants and some renewal applicants will be required to submit two forms of residency documentation. Preferred residency documents are FAFSA and the Mississippi driver’s license. Alternate residency documents accepted are State Tax Return for the current tax filing year, Homestead Exemption, Voter Registration, and MS Road and Bridge Privilege Tax Registration Receipt. Description: The Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant Program is designed to provide financial assistance to students attending state approved public and private not-for-profit two-year and four-year eligible colleges and universities. The primary objective of MESG is to provide educational opportunities for high-achieving high school students who wish to pursue postsecondary education in the state. Applicants must enroll or be currently attending an approved postsecondary institution in a program of study leading to a first certificate, first associate’s or first bachelor’s degree. Entering freshmen applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to high school or home school completion. They must earn a high school cumulative GPA of 3.5; and score a minimum of a 29 on the National ACT (1350 on the SAT) or be named a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist. ACT Superscores are accepted. Home school students may apply. Students currently enrolled in college must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative college GPA on at least 12 completed college hours but no more than 18 completed college hours. Canon Foundation Research Fellowships

Description: Annually, the Canon Foundation in Europe grants fellowships to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers. European Fellows are expected to pursue a period of research in Japan whereas Japanese Fellows are expected to do their research in Europe. Canon Foundation Fellowships are for a minimum period of three months up to maximum of one year. All fields of research are eligible. Canon Fellows from Europe are free to choose their host institutes and hosts in Japan. The same freedom is given to Japanese Canon Fellows coming to Europe. Canon Foundation Research Fellowships may be applied for when an agreement on co-operation and on a research plan has been reached between the guest researcher and the proposed host institution. All Europeans are eligible to apply (including UK, Israel, Turkey, Balkan and Baltic countries). Applicants must have completed a Master’s degree within the 10 years preceding their application and must hold the degree at the time of submission. Candidates who obtained their qualification more than ten years ago will also be considered as long as they provide further supporting information in their application. Priority is given to applicants going to Europe and Japan for the first time. Preference is also given to applicants planning to travel to Japan or Europe rather than those seeking to extend their current stays. Funding decisions are based on the quality of the research plan, the reference letters and the host confirmation. Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers and Firemen Scholarship:

Description: The Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to dependent children and spouses of any Mississippi law enforcement officer, full-time firefighter or volunteer firefighter who has suffered fatal injuries or wounds or become permanently and totally disabled as a result of injuries or wounds which occurred in the performance of the official and appointed duties of his or her office. The dependent child must not have reached the age of 23. This financial assistance is offered as an eight-semester tuition and room scholarship at any state-supported college or university in Mississippi. Applicants must submit documentation of eligibility as child or spouse which may be for a child a certificate of live birth or proof of adoption and for a spouse a marriage license. All four documentation of permanent and total disability are required: a letter from the officer’s or firefighter’s former supervisor or employer stating whether the officer or firefighter is disabled as a result of injuries or wounds that occurred in the performance of the official duties of his office; a statement from the officer’s or firefighter’s physician stating whether the officer or firefighter is disabled and the reason for that disability; verification from the Public Employees’ Retirement System; and verification from the Social Security Administration. Description: The Marie Palello Scholarship will be awarded to students who are of 50 percent or more of Italian extraction demonstrating leadership, community service, and high academic achievement. For over sixty years, Marie Pallello served as the Executive Secretary of The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. This scholarship is given to perpetuate her legacy as one of the reasons the JCCIA has flourished. In order to be given priority consideration for the Marie Palello Scholarship, the applicant is required to be of 50 percent or more of Italian extraction and a resident of Illinois, have demonstrated leadership and community service experience, and have high academic achievement. Description: A fund established by former AAG Executive Director J. Warren Nystrom supports an annual prize for a paper based upon a recent dissertation in geography. Papers must be presented at the upcoming AAG Annual Meeting. Eligibility for this competition is restricted to AAG members who have received their PhD degree since April 1, 2023 and who have been members of the AAG for 2023, 2024 and 2025. Applicants must submit the paper that must have the following parts in this order: an abstract, the paper text, and cited references. A co-authored paper is acceptable if the applicant can provide a separate statement that details the degree and depth of their contribution to the research being presented in the paper, and the applicant must also state what role they had in the writing of the paper itself. Applicants must also submit a letter of endorsement from their graduate advisor that verifies the relationship of the paper to their dissertation work. The endorsement letter should also address why the advisor believes the applicant’s work is deserving of an award as prestigious as the J.W. Nystrom Award. Submissions will be judged based on the eligibility requirements; adherence to format for submission; originality of ideas and potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge in particular subfields of the discipline; clarity and effectiveness of written style; and quality and effectiveness of oral presentation at the AAG Annual Meeting special session.
